I have been reading much about Google Wealth Maker (Taker) being in top news for internet marketing. People are proclaiming successes like:

“I’ve only used GWM for the past 3 days and I’m amazed at how fast things are happening. I’ve had 6,437 clicks to my affiliate links and rank 2nd and 1st on Google search for about 7 of the keywords I’ve used.”

After doing the research I made the conclusion that don’t trust anybody’s words on internet if they sound too good to be true.

GWM utilizes Twitter (www.twitter.com) for website marketing and link building.

Basically GWM automates posting material (you must have to make the landing pages yourself) and web links and sets up the Twitter following. It also takes relevant feeds from google news and posts on your tweets.

Here is a video that explains the process:

The downside:

Till the writing of this post the people I am working with found it extremely slow. Usually after 5 days for 4 campaigns, each twitter account was following just 4 persons with no auto posts.

You cannot improve your website’s search engine rankings because as per our finding all the links on Twitter are now no-follow.

One of my buddy’s accounts are under investigation for suspicious activity who has been using GWM.

Professional Advice: Stay Away from Google Wealth Maker. Till the writing of this post indications are strong that it is a scam. Yes there are remote chances that they may come up with some solution to these problems, let’s see, but at least I won’t bet my $90 or even $5 on it. If you really want to do auto posting etc there is a free alternative: http://www.tweetlater.com (We are not affiliated with them by any means).

Some people are saying it is recession time, I say not for me! Why? Simply because I know how to write. If you are reading this believe me you can never be jobless or afraid of recession or poverty if you stand up to the challenge.

First just think what we are listening: A series of Black Mondays, Foreclosures up 112% from last year, Banks collapsing, Major Insurance firms trembling, it is a never ending list. Have you ever thought where has all the money gone? Has the bad guys taken all of it or got buried in some secret place? No, it is still right there where it was before the start of all this.

Just like the great depression produced so many wealthy people (that usually nobody talks about) this recession will also make many a billionaires, are you going to be one of them? In fact it is just almost the right time to buy Real Estate, Stocks at rock bottom prices and sell them for massive profits in a few years time (provided of course you have that much money, like Warren Buffet), but if you are struggling to meet your ends meet then you have come to the right place. Here I want to discuss what our kind of people do now to avert the crises.

First you must change our mental attitude:

I am proactive. If I see something coming I do something about it “Now”. I am not like an Ostrich hiding its head in the sand when I see danger.

I provide value to people through Sales, by selling my skills or my (e-) products.

I believe in Abundance. I know there is plenty of money out there and I am going to get my abundant share.

I am adaptable and ready to seize the opportunity when it comes.

If you are ready then you must take some steps right now. You must have to do some planning, researching the best skill you have and use it to your full potential. Tell me what is common in a doctor, a scientist, an artist, a banker, a student, a house-wife, an on-job and a job-less person?
If you guess it is they all can write. Even if you are jobless you can write about your experiences in trying to get a job, write something about your CV (that’s exactly how I got started)

Here is a simple fast-track strategy to get you started writing for income:

Don’t give up your day job too soon (if you have one). As with any new business it will take time before you see a good income. But you must have a business model in your mind. A very good home business model is sales of your own e-products.

Do Research. Spend some time in your library/local magazine stores and check out which magazines they carry that correspond to your interests. Choose two or three that interest you the most, to start with. Take these magazines home and study them. Note the general writing style and the average length of articles in each magazine. Are there any writers who appeal to you most? Look at their writing style and make a habit of taking notes. My personal favorite is Steve Pavlina.

Make a list of items on paper of your personal special interests, ranging from hobbies, to sports, to writers, to movie stars, to computer software, etc., etc. Every subject that you can think of that interests you, even if only slightly. It can even be work-related if you like. Say you’re a teacher. What about a short article (750 to 1,000 words) on the basics of teaching? Or an e-book how to deal with naughty children?

Write every day. Be persistent. Make it a habit of writing/blogging even if it is a paragraph every day. Fix a time for your effort and don’t let anyone or anything to bother you at this time.

To discover the inside scoop on how people are using this skill to earn a decent living, I would highly recommend this home study course by Kevin Riley. It can literally save you hundreds of hours of your life and thousands of dollars worth of wasted effort by guiding you in the right direction in selling your own e-products to millions of customers:

I recently purchased a Western Digital 160 GB Passport portable external backup hard drive from Sofmap, Akihabara, Japan. I was not expecting that it will have so much useful data backup software with encryption.

WD 160GB Passport Portable External Hard Drive

When I just connected it to my PC the data backup wizard started, asked for specific files or complete data synchronization and backed up my whole hard drive without any problems. The software that did this was specially developed for WD by a relatively unknown French company “Dmailer“.

Dmailer Sync: Dmailer Sync is used to securely synchronize your important data (documents, audio, photos, video files etc), computer settings, emails with attachments (MS Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail) etc from you PC to any mobile storage device (USB flash drive, flash card, hard disk drive, iPod, mp3 players etc).

You may say hey I can just copy all these things to my USB what is the catch here?

a) Save Time: You are saving your time with having all the latest data in you USB with just the click of a button.

b) Data Redundance and Security: You don’t need to carry your laptop all the time with all the security and baggage hassles that come with it. Even if you do carry it, this is an added layer of defense to your arsenal. Don’t risk your $10,000 business meeting relying solely on your laptop and don’t risk your $100,000 data by putting it on an un-secured USB stick.

c) Data Availability: If you are even a bit security conscious you will never put all your business emails since the last so many years on the internet even on your company’s secure server (not to talk about the free internet services like gmail, hotmail yahoo etc). You will always download all the email in the desktop emailing program of your choice like MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes (my choice) etc. But then you are always laptop dependent.

Try sending an email from any public location like airport, cybercafe etc mostly they will not allow someone to load and run applications as their administrative rights have been removed. But not with Dmailer. Using just your USB stick you can not even have all your corporate email on your finger tips but you may also send and receive email without the need of Outlook, MS mail etc Cool!.

All I can say is that you can’t go wrong with this software, if it is good for Western Digital to put on their products it is good for you!

Most of the professionals at some point of their life go through the ordeal of writing resume. I have gone through several iterations of my resume over the years, last time just recently. I have also seen and sorted hundreds if not thousands of resumes for a couple of companies where I have worked at executive positions.

A Dilemma

Before going further I just want to share a dilemma that I have to face most of the time. Once I started my career I climbed up the ladder a bit too fast. In just four years time starting from the position of the developer I became the Chief Operating Officer. The problem in this situation is that if you mention all these details in your resume your chances of getting a job especially in another market/country/segment become somewhat bleak.

The purpose of writing this post is not to talk about my job history but to mention some pitfalls and mistakes to avoid while writing your resume. In this process I would like to mention a couple of my resumes that I thought were good but got a not so good response.

Pitfalls that You Must Avoid in Your Cover Letter

Some of the pitfalls present in this cover letter that you must avoid are:

1. Avoid the real reason of leaving your job.

2. Don’t mention the details of the projects on which you are working in the cover letter. These can be mentioned briefly in the resume.

3. If you are on a high post don’t mention what will happen to the company when you are gone. In fact you must limit the mentioning the name of your current company.

4. Never discuss any financial issues/matters/crises.

Well these are some of the points, you may find more.

Sample Resume

Here is the resume that accompanied that cover letter:

sample-professional-resume-1

There are two main problems with this resume. Can you point them out?

The two main things that a CV must contain are: Focus and Money. I may add another one Start Low. It is missing all.

Focus:

You must focus on the job for which you are applying. It is very rare that you get a job exactly according to what you have mentioned in your ‘generic CV‘. You must mold your CV to every job you are applying for if you are serious.

Where is the Money?

You must also look for the current market trends or where the money is? Suppose you have been on a managerial or a team lead position. Before applying for any job look at the news papers, job websites etc. See in which jobs related to your field there is more money or will be beneficial for you in the long run say after 10-15 years from now?

In my case after going through a lot of news papers/websites I came to the conclusion that the closest match that I had was Project Management. It was not that I didn’t have a Project Management experience but I never thought I can mention this as a key skill. I then started in depth study for Project Management, took help from friends etc. It has been a very fruitful exercise. Even if you did not get a job in the particular field it is an exercise worth undertaking.

Money Talks:

Your resume must be able to talk in the terms of money if you are focusing on a managerial level job. It is not enough that you worked on so and so high profile projects/jobs unless you can quantify the gains somehow. The gains preferably should be in terms of money. If it is very difficult to mention the gains in terms of money you may mention what was the problem that one of your previous projects solved? In a very broad sense what benefit did the mankind get from you doing that project? I hope you get the point.

Start Low:

If you were on a high post in your previous company you should start low for a new job. This has been a major stumbling block for me. I may clear this point with an example, think if you are the CEO of the present company what are the chances you will be given a CEO position in some other company? Probably not much (except you are the CEO of some greatly renowned company like Yahoo or Sun).

One of my friends told me this story: When he was in Canada one of his friends from Pakistan who was on a very good managerial position in one of Pakistani banks was struggling to find a job. He tried everything, even applying for entry level jobs. Got no response. The mistake he was making was that he was mentioning all his previous positions in the resume. After taking advise he re-worked his resume and mentioned only the positions he held far back in past. He applied and got an entry level job. In just six months after getting the job he escalated to a very good position. The moral of the story is that talent cannot be hidden for long. If you are talented and have the ability to move ahead nothing can hold you back. You just need somewhere to stand first.

The Catch:

There is a catch in start-low strategy: If you are not in some very developed/humane society where you are rewarded for your talents, this strategy may backfire. (From a developed society I mean the intellectual level of the people is such that they can appreciate your talents (and love you for what you are, not for what you did :-). You may get stuck in a country where rules may bog you down.

I have a direct experience of UAE and Japanese markets. I will be reluctant to use this strategy in UAE (I may use the tactics provided the company where I am applying is really worthwhile). Whereas in Japan I may well be using it. Why, because in UAE rules and regulations are very strict especially if you are an Asian. Once you join a company you are stuck at least for a year, or more depending upon the contract, you can’t leave. You must carefully plan you strategy, if you are young (below 30) you have plenty of time to take chances, but if you are in your 40s or nearing 40 better be careful. Professionalszone

P.S. Take a sneak peek at my final resume: resume-rev-11.1.2 I think it is a good idea to put revision number, to me it shows that the person is organized and it also gives a sense of quality assurance.
